Apprenticeship Training at CET - Putting learning into practice

Are you looking to kick-start your career in the electrical and communications industry? The College of Electrical Training is home to pre-apprenticeship and apprenticeship courses designed to provide industry specific training. Our hands-on learning methodology, real-world installation scenarios and after-hours remedial resources equip students with the knowledge and skills needed to build a strong foundation for a fulfilling career in the electro-technology industry.

Hands-On Learning

One of the most effective ways to prepare for a career as an electrician is to learn the required skills through hands-on apprenticeship training. CETs CERT II Pre-Apprenticeship courses and CERT III Apprenticeship Pathways, both employ a hands-on methodology, which helps students become familiar with the way materials actually look, how they feel, and how they function.

You can only learn so much from reading textbooks. Imagine trying to learn how to rewire a home from a book, without having touched or used any of the materials yourself. Real learning takes place when you engage with the materials and apply concepts through hands-on practice.

Real-World Installation Scenarios

Apprenticeship training at CET also replicates real-world installation scenarios. Scenario-based training provides students with the opportunity to develop proper techniques for common situations seen in the field. For example, we use wiring booths to simulate a complete installation, rather than just dealing with each step of an installation individually on a workbench. This helps students understand the entire installation process while developing troubleshooting and decision making skills, imperative attributes of successful sparkys. Active learning through real-world installation scenarios also improves knowledge retention and promotes safety in the workplace.

After-Hours Remedial Resources

It’s common for students to struggle with one or more concepts during their apprenticeship training, and not all trainees learn at the same pace. That’s why we offer smaller evening remedial classes, outside of normal class time, at no extra cost to our students. This allows for students to work at their own pace and not be rushed into re-sitting assessments straight away.

Why Choose Apprenticeship Training at CET?

CET’s apprentice completion rate is over 90%. Our knowledgeable, experienced, and dedicated staff, hands-on training through real-world installation scenarios, and availability of after-hours remedial resources, help ensure all trainees are supported through their apprenticeships and are well-prepared to start their careers as electricians.

The equipment and learning scenario seen in the video below is available in the CERT III Apprenticeship Pathways and CERT II Pre-Apprenticeship courses. Enrol or learn more about Pre-Apprenticeship and Apprenticeship Pathways, or contact us for more information.
