Course Overview

This non-accredited course reviews electrical principals and applications relating to the critical Essential Performance Capabilities.

The course is designed for fourth year apprentices in the reinforcement of the critical knowledge and skills they have learnt during their apprenticeship.

The course provides the individual with the opportunity to assess their own retention of theory knowledge and apply this in practical situation.

Course Content

The LEP covers the following subjects:
  • Electrical Safety, Isolation and Tagging and physiological effect of current;
  • Technical Standards and local requirements;
  • Installation design and maximum demand;
  • Cable selection, volt drop, short circuit performance, current carrying capacity of conductors and protective device selection;
  • Transformer selection, perspective short circuit current, circuit protection and protection device co-ordination;
  • Verification of an installation (checking and testing), and equipment testing.

Certification & Assessment

Graduates will be issued with a Certificate of Attendance.

Course Materials

Participants are required to bring current versions of both AS/NZS 3000 and AS/NZS 3008.1.1 to the course.

A revision booklet with examples and exercises is supplied.

Course Requirements

Participants must be in the final year of their electrical apprenticeship.

Fully enclosed shoes must be worn at all times in CET buildings. Safety boots/shoes must be worn when working in the workshop.
