The Internet of Things (IOT)

The Internet of Things (IOT)

The Internet of Things (IOT). It’s no longer just a buzzword – it’s the future, here, now.

How is the electrician of today best placed to be a part of this future? By ensuring that they’ve had the latest training and carry the credentials to give them the edge.

Whether it’s being NBN ready, upgrading installations, or building the ultimate man cave - demand for network cabling is a rising tide. Coupled this with the interconnection via a network of computing devices embedded in everyday objects, enabling them to send and receive data and your IOT is taking shape.

CET is ensuring they can deliver on these expectations, through upgrading their communications facilities and introducing IOT training in partnership with the Cisco Networking Academy.

To achieve this, CET recently commenced delivery in its new communications workshop/lab. With the assistance of Uniquip and Grove, the workshop was repurposed to provide a more realistic experience for the student - bringing together learning and practice.

Electrical Training Class

Included in the upgrade was a “class set” of 19” 40u racks linked with cable trays, catenary cabling and fitted out with MDF/IDF infrastructure and Cat 5/6 termination facilities. The new racks provide apprentices and post trade students the opportunity to work on the equipment found in the real world. By keeping the learning and practical elements in the same room, students don’t have to traverse the corridors from the classroom to the shared workshop. From seeing ‘how to’ on the interactive whiteboard, to the actual doing on the rack, is just a matter of seconds.

As part of the process of upgrading the hardware, CET Joondalup also invested in a Fluke Versiv DSX-5000 CableAnalyzer. The DSX-5000 is the industry standard for network analysation and thanks to Pacific Datacom and Fluke Networks, CET can now provide access to this state of the art technology.

Instructor and Student

The NECA Energy Smart Electrician training program is coming soon, now is the time to ensure you are riding the IOT wave – not watching it pass you by.
